Below is a letter I composed for my sister when she decided to move to Florida...she was making a move that would take her away from all she knew and at that time, she had wondered what her father would have thought about her...so I channeled his thoughts and this is what I wrote...
Dearest Amy,
It doesn’t seem that long ago that I wrote to you when you were a little girl about moving to Arizona…and now your all grown up and taking your family, as I did, on a new adventure. It may seem scary at first to move somewhere new, but as you did 25 years ago, you made friends fast, and made Arizona your home in no time. Now that you are moving to Florida, you will get to go to the beaches, take my grandkids to Disney World, like I did when you were just a baby, and enjoy the warm winters as you have in Arizona. Remember our first Christmas in Arizona? You, Jenny and Jeff were running around in shorts saying how warm it was. It took no time for all of us to become accustom to the heavenly weather that December brought, I'm sure you will all continue to do the same. We made quite a few memories in Arizona, and although I won’t be able to make the trip with you to Florida, as you set out for something new and exciting, just know, I'm always looking down on you, with my big smile, thinking my little snit sure is something else. While you are on the road, take time with the kids to play “I'm going on a safari?” count license plates and play “slug bug”. When you see your mom, give her a big hug and kiss from me, and when you arrive to your new home, take a moment to look out into the night sky, find a twinkling star, and know that at that very moment, I'm thinking about you. I'm so proud of you, you’re all grown up, embarking on a new life, raising 3 amazing kids, going back to college…I couldn’t be more proud. Have a safe trip Amy Wamy…I’ll be watching over all of you.
Love and miss you,
Daddy
