Back in 2002 I had the pleasure of taking my mother to see Pavarotti live in Phoenix. It was the most amazing musical event that I have ever been too...while it was nothing sitting at America West Arena, as being in Terme di Caracalla Rome Italy would have been the absolute best place to see someone so unbelievably amazing. (Pavoritti performed there in July 1990 with Carreras, Domingo and Mehta with the del Tearto dell"Opera di Roma.) So...back to AWA...we sat it the nose bleed section, but to see Pavarotti, you dont need to be so close to see the beads of sweat on his forehead....being in the same arena with him was certainly enough for me to be teary eyed and laden with goosebumps all up and down my arms. So Im sure your probably wondering why am I bringing this up 8 years later? Well the other day my son was watching the Sum of All Fears...if your a Jack Ryan fan, you know what Im talking about. Anyway, there is a scene where there is opera music playing and it is Nessun Dorma (my favorite aria in the world) , made famous by Pavarotti when he used it as the theme song of the BBC television's coverage of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. So of course I asked my son what he was watching because for my death metal loving son, hearing this music from the TV surprised me. I told him that was my favorite aria, which he replied, "I know mom". LOL. Well this morning, as Im working away, Jaysen is on the laptop and he is listening to Nessun Dorma by Pavarotti...so again, I asked what he was doing, and he said listening to opera..."WHAT?" as I spun around on my heels and headed back to get more info..."Mom...Opera is amazing when it is sung by someone epic!" Did I just hear my son say this? I head back to my desk and start texting people that I cant believe my son is listening to Pavarotti...then he surprises me again, by saying "Do you know this one mom..." and I say yes, thats Ave Maria! So we listen to that...So Im getting excited, as I just cant believe my son is playing opera music...so I mention to him that I have the DVD of the 3 tenors ...and yes, another surprise...he wants to watch it...I can hear the music from the other room, and as I look out of my office, I see my son in the kitchen swaying his head to the music...Ah...thank you Lord for allowing him to see the beauty in something that I truly love. Now lets see if I can get him to the Opera! Hmmm...maybe Ill plan a trip to the Met next year and see something amazing! And its so ironic that it is National Opera Week! Ahhhh...
